John Wyka, AIA
Committed to a responsible architecture dedicated to innovative design and practical functionality, John founded JOHN WYKA • ARCHITECTURE in 2014. He believes that architecture fundamentally impacts the human experience and that great architecture transcends the everyday, inspiring harmony with the environment and enriching lives aesthetically and spiritually.
After graduation from the UCLA School of Architecture, John was invited to join Professor Barton Myers’ Los Angeles-based architecture firm, where he spent eight years overseeing significant projects across North America. There he developed his deep commitment to materiality and architectural detailing, both central to his design methodology today. Upon his departure, John worked with Italian architect Renzo Piano and his team in both Italy and California on the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, serving as Local Project Manager through Schematic Design.
John’s previous career as an attorney gives him a unique insight into the complex building and planning approvals process in Southern California, a fluency that has proven valuable to developer clients including The McGregor Company, The Ratkovich Company, and Simms Development, for whom the firm has provided design and planning services across multiple properties. He participates regularly as a guest critic at the UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design and at the USC School of Architecture.
