The SMART Center is a mission-critical, around-the-clock Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) designed to consolidate all City of Santa Monica technological intelligence sources into a single operations hub, where data can be analyzed and disseminated to the field to support more efficient and effective detection, response, and investigative approaches to modern law enforcement.
The response room, surrounded by glazed walls opening onto adjacent private offices and a conference room, features a drone command platform and an expansive video wall. Carefully considered interventions including detailed interior glazing, overhead lighting, and acoustic panels create a contrast between the raw concrete building frame of the existing headquarters and the precision of the new working environment. The two registers work together to produce a subtly lit, acoustically controlled space that allows unimpeded video and audio communications with field units.
Construction completed in 2025. Photography is scheduled for July 2026.
